The MedAyanamis
By Head Nurse Meagen

The Rei clones who form the UFL's hospital staff were contrived at the very beginning of the first Fanboy War, when it became apparent that no other Largo fangirls will join me in my Field Hospital.

Both sides are writing up weapons and armies at the speed of hastily typing fingers. Being somewhat short on creative power, all I have managed to contrive is a pack of Rei Ayanami clones. They do look cute in the official UFL Nurse's Uniforms, though.

Later on, at the very end of the War, I tried to clarify how I had gotten them:

I turn and go back into the tent. Looks like they'll be plenty of work for us. I take out my cellphone and dial a number. "Professor Ikari? Yeah, it's me again. I'd need about a dozen more Reis. Oh, thank you. Yes, I'll be sure to tell Largo-sama. Bye."

Putting my cellphone back into my pocket, I just wonder: what did Ikari mean by 'Tell Largo I wish him luck in dealing with those pesky Knight Sabres'?

Nurse Reis are assumed to be present whenever there are wounded, poisoned or otherwise hurt people. The room temperature usually drops a bit with them around. They can be reffered to as "the UFL nurses" (Meagen is the Head Nurse), "the MedAyanamis" (note MidCap!), "the Rei clones" or "the Reis". Meagen calls them "Miss Rei" - always the same name (unless specified otherwise). They always know which one she means. No-one knows why.

"Laws of Anime Comedy", says a monotonous voice from his side as one Rei scribbles quickly on his chart. She lifts her head to give him one of those calm, cool looks that only Reis can give. "Chapter 3, Shoujo Manga. Subsection IIa, Laws of..."

"Miss Rei, could you give me a hand here?", calls Meagen's voice from the other room. Rei quickly hands the chart to Rei and walks off.

"Laws of what?", Draegos asks the replacement.

"Dunno", the blue-haired clone replies airly (she seems rather cheerful, for a Rei). "But I think Ranma 1/2 and Love Hina are listed as examples." - from "Draegos and the Chibi Nurse Meagen Dolls".

As can be noted in this fragment, despite being clones, the Reis have started to develop distinct personalities. Extreme examples of this include:

Turning to Rei #5, who has been appointed Intelligence Ayanami, I ask: "Status, Miss Rei?"

Meagen's second-in-command, usually left in charge whenever Meagen is away from the Hospital. Quite similar to Misato Katsuragi in many ways - keeps a cool head in a crisis, brilliant tactician, skilled with small firearms, and is not gainst some good b00ze when off-duty (although strangely enough, she prefers cocktails to beer).

[Suddenly, what seems to be a bright flash of light darts through the battlefield, leaving dead cosplayers and fragmented zombies in its wake. This incredible force comes to a stop near the drink cart, and turns out to be a Rei Ayanami, armed with twin Magnums running on Hollywood logic, and litterally crackling with l337ness.]

l337 Zomie Killer Ayanami: G1mm3 th4 b33r.

Meagen: Here ya go! [tosses a can towards l337ZKAyanami]

[The l337 Zombie Killer drinks the b33r and her aura of pure l337ne55 flares up. She vanishes back into the fray.]

Bearing numerous firearms which run on Anime Law #15. Highly skilled in all manner of FPS-related combat. She speaks fluent l337 and can tear up Zombies, Cosplayers, tentacle monsters and other 3v1l things easily.

Ayame watches the exchange with fascination. "Although they ae all from the same genotype, they are beginning to diversify and develop distinct personalities," she thinks to herself. "I wonder if this applies to their researchers as well?"

Ayame's hunch is correct, for as they enter the auxilary lab, they are greeted by what appears to be a 12 year old Ayanami. "Intelli" Ayanami makes the introductions.

"Ms. Shimazu, our head researcher, Rei 'Washu' Ayanami. 'Washu', this is Ayame Shimazu and her research team. They are here to assist us with developing antitoxins. I'll leave you and your respective personnel to get to work."

As mentionned, WashuuRei is the head scientist/researcher of the UFL. Like her namesake, she considers herself the greatest genius alive, is prone to bouts of Mad Scientist Laughter, and occasionally causes minor explosions. She has a certain sadistic streak and is often merciless towards percieved enemies. Meagen calls her "Washuu-chan".

She has a not-so-friendly rivalry going on with Caduceus-kun from Erika Multinational in the fields of computer hacking and gadget inventing - and losing, unless you count practical jokes.

The UFL's primary fund source. We prefer not to enquire too closely as to where the money comes from. Following her own special moral code, she never takes advantage of the patients. Visitors (and occasionally even invaders) of the hospital are another matter entirely. Meagen calls her "Miss Nabiki".

IntelliAyanami was in the cafeteria, getting a late-night snack, when someone bumped into her. "Rei-chan! What are you doing up this late?", she asked.

The Rei in question was PsiAyanami, one of the more powerful psychic talents in Megatokyo. In accordance with Laws of Anime Cuteness, she had the appearance of a nine-year-old girl, currently dressed in a set of light-blue pajamas. "The unwitting messenger points the way. The light and the darkness, joined in one being, are finally at peace", she intoned, eyes unfocused, as she was lifted up into the elder's arms.

"Rei-chan", IntelliAyanami warned her.

The girl seemed to come to her senses, and then added sheepishly: "Uh, that doctor who was half-angel and half-demon just brain-scanned Lightsider-san and then became human and left." There were some definite advantages of having a nine-year-old psychic around. One which IntelliAyanami had discovered quite early was that you could get a lot of info by refusing them dessert if they were being too cryptic.

This spunky li'l lass is still learning her way around the psychic realm, but still she has enormous talent and potetial. Like all kids psychics. She's taught right here in our hospital by several our of nurses, who find her quite a handful. So far, the only people she really listens to are IntelliAyanami and William Trent, who are like parents to her. Will hopes to move to uncle when Iain Caduceuskun finally gets up his nerve and proposes to Intelli.

Rei "Skuld-chan" Ayanami (or SkuldRei) - first appeared in Back at the UFL

One particular Rei-Clone variant was short but had very long hair. She had been maintaining the machines and instruments of the UFL Hospital when the KOPZ Commandos broke in through the air vents. They were soon dispatched by her hammer - which wasn't Big in the sense that it was very Long. Her attire wasn't too different from the regular MedAyanamis' in that it was basically white and had a mini-skirt, except there were red parts and reflective, red, hemispherical buttons. Her white gloves also had those same buttons on the back, one for each glove.

Yet another Ayanami who has grown to resemble a popular Anime character. Resident UFL mechanic and great enthusiast of all kinds of machines.

LordVetinari, a Dreadnought from the Order of Rent-A-Zilla, and his friend Duren, a young shapeshifter, both seem to have developped a crush on her. Meagen calls her "Skuld-chan".

Rei Ishikari - first mentionned in an epilogue to Church of Miho 4

And how's your partner?" asked Garran. Takahashi grinned weakly.

"Well, most of it I couldn't tell you... or... you know the line, 'I'd have to kill you'. But Ishikari is fine, at least."

"Certainly good to hear," Phaedrus commented.

"Yes, indeed. But it seems he met a girl while he was in the hospital, by the name of Rei..."

"REI? Ayanami Rei?!?" both poets chimed.

"Yup."

"But all the MedAyanamis are clones!" Phaedrus said in amazement. "They're kinda... cold, and distant, and, and---"

"Exactly his type," Takahashi finished. "Ishikari claims that they both knew it just as soon as she brought him a dish of ice cream that first day. They realized that they were both perfectly comfortable with each other's frigid, inscrutable personalities, and it just snowballed from there."

It seems one of my nurses went and got married to a Himitsu Desu agent. Well, who am I to stand in the way of true love? I'm not sure if J. Random Lurker will want to develop this pair, so if you want to mention them, PM him.
